Due to the current weather conditions, we would like to inform you about the correct handling of your waste garbage cans in frosty weather. Our waste disposal staff are increasingly noticing frozen contents in the waste garbage cans, which makes proper emptying difficult or impossible.
Please note that if the waste garbage cans are iced over and cannot be emptied completely, no additional emptying is possible! Therefore, make sure that your waste is pourable during frost to ensure proper emptying.
We recommend the following measures to prevent the waste from freezing:
- Place the garbage cans in a frost-protected location, for example in the garage.
- Wrap damp waste in newspaper.
- Line the bottom of the organic waste garbage can with a few layers of crumpled newspaper.
- Occasionally put a layer of crumpled paper in the garbage can.
- Place shrub cuttings at the bottom of the organic waste garbage can.
- In the event of heavy frost, please loosen the waste shortly before emptying. You can do this by running a spade along the inside walls of the garbage can to loosen the waste.
Your obligation to cooperate is set out in the waste management statutes of the Emsland district:
§17
(3) … If freezing of the waste on the waste container cannot be prevented by suitable countermeasures by the party obliged to connect and use the waste, the waste must be made pourable by the latter before emptying.
Thank you for your understanding and assistance.
