Disposal & Recycling

End-of-life vehicles

End-of-life vehicles and car wrecks are created when a car is severely damaged, no longer roadworthy or can no longer be repaired economically.
Such vehicles often sit unused for a long time on properties, in garages or on the roadside.
What many people don’t know: A car is not only made of metal, but also contains numerous environmentally hazardous substances.
These include fuels, engine and transmission oil, brake fluid, coolant, batteries and airbags.

Why end-of-life vehicles should not simply be disposed of:

  • Environmental hazard: Liquids such as oil, gasoline or coolant can leak and contaminate soil and groundwater.
  • Safety risk: Airbags, gas pressure dampers and batteries can be triggered, explode or cause fires if handled incorrectly.
  • Loss of raw materials: Vehicles contain valuable metals and materials that can be professionally recycled.
  • Legal requirements: End-of-life vehicles are subject to special legal regulations and may only be treated by authorized companies.

This is how you can dispose of end-of-life vehicles:

  1. Car recycler – Only hand in your end-of-life vehicle or car wreck to a certified car recycling company. The vehicle will be professionally drained, dismantled and recycled there.
  2. No acceptance at recycling centers – End-of-life vehicles and vehicle parts are not accepted at our recycling centers.

Tip: Reputable car recyclers will issue you with a certificate of destruction. This is important for deregistering the vehicle at the registration office.
